Selecting a Preparer - :60 Radio PSA text script

MUSIC UP AND UNDER THROUGHOUT

SFX: door closes; feet stamping on mat

MOM (calling out):   Geoff, I’m home!

SFX: Pause; footsteps

GEOFF(flatly):   Hey, Mom.

Mom(hugging him):  Sooo, what did you do today? I notice the dishes are still in the sink…

GEOFF:    I’ve been busy.

MOM (hopeful):   Getting your taxes done, like we talked about?

GEOFF (confidently):  Oh, I’ve got my friend Dave on that. Yeah. He’s only charging 20 bucks.

MOM (Voice rising):  Not Dave from your high school class who graduated three years late!

GEOFF   Yeah, he’s good with numbers. Won our fantasy football league last year.

MOM (exasperated):   Geoff, I can’t believe you would actually take…

GEOFF(chipper):  Kidding, Mom. I took all my paperwork over to that preparer just like you recommended.

ANNCR: Using a paid tax preparer this year? Visit irs.gov for some do’s and don’ts.  Like, look for a preparer who has a Preparer Tax ID number, and signs your return. Check out their qualifications, and review your tax return before you sign it.

MOM (exhaling loudly):  Oh, Geoff, why do you do this to me…

GEOFF (laughing):   Mom, you’re just so easy…

ANNCR:    IRS.gov. It’s the best tax tip of all.
