Changes to the Instructions for Form 8949, Exceptions to Reporting Each Transaction on a Separate Row -- 15-APR-2013
The 2012 Instructions for Form 8949 are being reposted on IRS.gov to address two situations. The first change is covered under “Exception 1” in the instructions for lines 1 and 3, and applies to all Form 8949 filers. The change is that the text indicating the details on each transaction are on an attached statement in lieu of reporting each transaction on Form 8949 should be in column (a) with columns (b) and (c) left blank, rather than the text being across all three columns as stated in the currently posted 2012 Instructions for Form 8949. The second change is a burden reduction for businesses that meet certain criteria. It is covered in the instructions both under “What’s New” and under “Exception 2” in the instructions for lines 1 and 3.
