YOUNGER SISTER: Well, I’ve really done it this time.
OLDER SISTER: Did you go through the car wash again with the windows down?
YOUNGER SIS: Worse. The April tax deadline is coming, and I haven’t even started my return. All that paperwork? What am I gonna do?
OLDER SIS: Step one, little sister, remain calm. Step two, go to irs.gov—the official site of the Internal Revenue Service.
SFX: COMPUTER KEYS
YOUNGER SIS: OK, I’m there.
OLDER SIS: Now look up filing for an extension.
YOUNGER SIS: Form 4868. Seems easy enough. But what if I owe?
OLDER SIS: Well, look up payment options.
YOUNGER SIS: Oh. So, I can pay some of what I owe when I send in the form, and work out the balance with the IRS. Hey, how come you know so much about all this?
OLDER SIS: Well, this year I’m filing for an extension…but I have a really good excuse.
YOUNGER SIS: Yeah, like what? Oh come on, fess up.
OLDER SIS: I’m not saying a word.
(they chuckle)
