Education Tax Credit-Claim It (Parents) (ASL) - YouTube video text script
Hi, I’m Kudi and I work for the IRS.
Did you go to college or trade school or pay for your kids’ tuition last year?
If so, you may be eligible for a tax credit called the American Opportunity Credit.
It could mean up to $2,500 in your pocket.
That’s per student during their first four years of post-secondary education.
Eligible expenses include tuition, fees, most books and supplies.
Even if you don’t make enough money to have to file a tax return, you should file one anyway.
Because you could still get up to $1,000 from this credit.
So, don’t forget to claim this credit on your tax return.
And if you or your kids are in school this year, save your receipts so you can claim the credit next year
