Education Tax Credit - Claim It (Students) (ASL) - YouTube video text script

Hi, I’m Thomas and I work for the IRS.

Did you pay for college or trade school last year?

If so, you may be eligible for a tax credit called the “American Opportunity Credit.”

It could mean up to $2,500 in your pocket.

That’s per student, during your first four years of post-secondary education.

Eligible expenses include: tuition, fees, most books and supplies.

Even if you don’t make enough money to have to file a tax return, you should file one anyway.

Because you could still get up to $1,000 from this credit.
So, don’t forget to claim this credit on your tax return.

And if you are in school this year, save your receipts so you can claim this credit next year
