Event Information: This free seminar in Creole and English will benefit established small businesses, those getting started, and individuals anticipating going into business. The practitioner presenters, who are fluent in both Creole and English, will share information on diverse tax topics to help attendees succeed in business.
Business Income and Expenses: Schedule C (Form 1040), Profit or Loss from Business (Sole Proprietorship), will be used as a reference tool during the workshop. The presenters will cover different kinds of business income, including gross receipts, bartering income, rents, and cancellation of debt, and explain how to account for them on the tax return. The attendees will learn about various deductible business expenses, such as costs of goods sold, business start-up costs, depreciation, car and truck expenses, entertainment and gifts, and business use of your home. This workshop is a real opportunity to get answers to a variety of tax questions about small businesses.
Recordkeeping Requirements: At the conclusion of this Small Business Tax Workshop, the participants will understand their recordkeeping responsibilities and be able to respond to the following questions.

- What types of records are generally accepted by the IRS?
